Mitsubishi Stops Production of i-MiEV-Based Citroen C-Zero and Peugeot iOn

There are more troubles on the horizon for Mitsubishi as the automaker confirmed that it has halted production of the Citroen C-Zero and Peugeot iOn, both of which are re-badged versions of the i-MiEV all-electric mini and are built at its plant in Mizushima, Japan.

According to PSA Peugeot-Citroen and Mitsubishi, the halt is temporary, through neither company would say for how long it would last.

Mitsubishi's All-Electric 2012 i-MiEV Recalled Over Air-Bag Problem

A number of 2012 model year Mitsubishi i-MiEV hatchbacks are being recalled in the U.S. and Canada due to a potential issue with air-bag sensors.

The Japanese automaker said that on certain models, the air-bag sensors are incompatible with the self-diagnostic software used by the Safety Restraint System (SRS) system, causing the warning lamp to turn on.

Mitsubishi Details 2012 Pikes Peak Hill Climb i-MiEV Contenders

As it turns out, Mitsubishi will field not one but two i-MiEV cars in the Electric Class of the legendary Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, to be held in Colorado from July 3 to 8.

Mitsubishi will enter the fully decked out i-MiEV Evolution prototype, which was teased through a pair of sketches back in March, and a regular production i-MiEV in the event.

"UK police forces to employ Mitsubishi i-MiEV, speed criminals rejoice!" was the title of our post back in 2009 when we learned that British cops were to use the small electric city car.

And even though Mitsubishi isn't ready to drop full details yet, something tells us that we won't be laughing at this special version of the i-MiEV, with which the Japanese automaker will enter the 2012 edition of the legendary Pikes Peak International Hill Climb on July 8, an even that is held annually in Colorado, USA.
