Toyota Supra

The Toyota Supra is a type of sports car and grand tourer that was originally produced by the Toyota Motor Company from the years of 1979 to 2002, making it one of the older models with the longest value of production in the Toyota line. The style was originally derived from one of its predecessors, the Toyota Celica; however, it was specifically fashioned to be both wider and longer so that it would be a sturdier car than the Toyota Celica. However, the designers were able to maintain the original speed in the vehicle, despite its larger size than its cousin, the Toyota Celica.
During its 3rd generation starting in the middle of 1986, the Toyota Supra MKIII, the Supra became its own model, no longer based off the previous model, the Celica. As a result of this, there was no longer the prefix "Celica" and became, simply the Supra. However, due to the similarity it is often mistaken with the Toyota Celica and vice versa.
The Toyota Supra also traces many of its roots back to the Toyota 2000GT with the original insistence of the 2000GT being the motor used for the car. During the first three generations of the line, a direct descendent engine of the Toyota 2000GT, the M engine was used. All four of the Toyota Supra's have sported and produced an incline 6 cylinder engine with most of the engine specs being almost identical except for a few choice technological innovations. The aspects of the interior have also been quite similar through all four generations. The engine is relatively powerful, but lacks a certain get up to the acceleration. However, this is made up for in luxury as well as overall power.

1,100HP-Strong Chevrolet Pickup Truck Terrorizes Sports Cars on the Highway

The makers of the TX2K12 video series have shared a clip of a highly modified Chevrolet pickup truck challenging numerous tuned sports cars including a Corvette, a Dodge Viper, an older generation Chevy Camaro, a Ford Mustang, and even an 800-hp Toyota Supra – all on public roads in Houston, Texas.

And yes, as you probably already have figured out, there's nothing legal nor safe about these street races…

BMW Rep Says Toyota's Sports Car will Have a Unique Design, Insider Hints at 6-Series-Based Supra

The recent deal signed between the BMW Group and Toyota Motor Corp that includes the joint development of platform architecture and components for a future sports car, has spurred speculation and rumors about the type of model that could come out of the partnership.

The Japanese company's president Akio Toyoda opened up a bag of clues during his speech in Germany by saying that he is "looking forward to a sports car that is environment-friendly and truly excites car fans around the world."

Would you Believe that this Aston Martin DBS Replica is Based on a Toyota Supra?

Whereas some people transform the already wickedly fast in turbocharged outfit, fourth-generation Toyota Supra into mechanical beasts with 1,000-ponies under the hood, others, a very few to be honest, have slightly different plans for the Japanese sports car.

Take the British owner of this Toyota Supra, for example, who turned the coupe model into a replica of an Aston Martin DBS, supposedly inspired by the one featured in the 2008 James Bond flick, Quantum of Solace.

A Toyota Supra with 1,000 WHP, a Group of Motorcycles and a Cop

We are not aware of the laws in Sweden, but we have a hunch that the driver of the 1,000 wheel-horsepower, mid-1990s Toyota Supra and his motorcycle buddies featured in this video from Superretards broke at least a couple of them during their ride in the city of Västerås, located some 100km (~62miles) west of Stockholm.

No word on what happened after the police car appeared at the end of the short film. You can watch the two videos right past the jump.

Toyota Once Again Rumored to be Mulling a Replacement for the Supra

After so many reports about Toyota resurrecting the Supra, one would be inclined to doubt the persistent rumors.

On the other hand, we have the example of the on-again, off-again, on-again Acura/Honda NSX, which came into fruition with the presentation of the pre-production concept at the Detroit Auto show in January.

Taking everything we have heard and seen over the past year into consideration, most importantly Toyota's newly found commitment to developing cars with more emotional styling and handling characteristics, there is a strong possibility that these rumors about a Supra replacement originate from facts.

Officially, the last time Toyota hinted at a direct successor to the Supra was in 2007 with the FT-HS Concept, a sharp looking two-seater model powered by a 400-horsepower hybrid powertrain linking a 3.5-liter V6 petrol engine to an electric motor. That project ended with the financial crisis that ensued the following year.
